There is clear research evidence that using a mobile phone while driving dangerous. However, although drivers generally know this risky behaviour, many continue to use handheld driving. The present used the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) explore psychological reasons underpinning intentions in general, as well send and read text messages across four different scenarios. Convenience sampling was obtain data from 314 participants who held valid licence drive UK, had driven at least once last six months owned phone. General were predicted by positive Attitudes towards behaviour higher Perceived Behavioural Control. Moreover, when predicting messages, it most consistent significant predictor. Surprisingly, neither Control nor Subjective Norms predictors or messages. Furthermore, perceptions risk (crashing being apprehended police) texts over above provided TPB variables. highlights need for interventions target attitudinal change increase order reduce prevalence these behaviours.
